Bio

Ellen Shapiro is an iOS and Android Engineer from Chicago. She was most recently the Director of iOS Development at an agency there called Vokal, and also helps build leading songwriting app Hum on the side. She also writes iOS tutorials for RayWenderlich.com, and runs the Chicago area meetup AndroidListener.

When you manage to tear her away from her computer, you can find Ellen traveling, biking, hanging out with and/or acting as sous-chef for her girlfriend, or Instagramming endless pictures of her cats.

The True Adventures Of A Part Time Indie

Have you run across an awesome idea, but still need the security of a consistent paycheck? Ellen Shapiro knows a thing or two about that. During the day, Ellen is the Lead Mobile Developer at SpotHero; at night, she is the lead developer for an independent songwriting app named Hum.

In this session, Ellen talks about how she balances (and sometimes fails to balance) her passion project, and her paycheck. She’ll teach you techniques to identify how much time you *actually* have to work on a project, and when to bring in additional help to keep it going — especially through the crazy times at your day job. Don’t miss this opportunity to hear about the true adventures of a part time indie.
